The Leadership Framework

The Scottish Government, Inspiring Scotland, the Scottish Assembly, and others worked with autistic people and people with learning disabilities on a new leadership and engagement process that put the voices and experiences of people at its heart.

One of the biggest themes that emerged from discussions among the groups is that autistic people said that their mental health had been severely affected by the pandemic. They said that autistic people often feel they are not understood by professionals and are more likely to have had a negative experience in mental health services.

To tackle this challenge, working groups of autistic people and supporters developed co-produced learning resources for NHS professionals, including GPs, GP practice staff and mental health services.
